  1. 3 years ago, Dan Spitz embarked on a journey to recreate an open source detent escapement for a wristwatch made entire from titanium components and based on a mechanical ships' chronometer escapement dating back to 1748. He did all of this in the US. Dan recently completed this process, which required him to actually locate and import historical machinery from Switzerland and then spend years restoring these pieces of equipment in order to create these timepieces. It's an amazing accomplishment and the Libre Excentrique is now available. Dan is currently sharing this journey on his instagram @danspitzofficial and has information on his website: https://danspitz.com/ He also sat down recently with Ariel Adams on the Superlative Podcast that is definitely worth a listen. In any event, I'm still a complete beginner when it comes to this level of watchmaking but it is incredibly interesting to me to read and learn about this process.
